Saints AGM this Thursday Feb 27th at Vector Arena at 7pm. All players and club members welcome - show your support for the mighty Saints and help us have an even better and stronger 2014.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all club members and their families. We hope you enjoy the holidays, and here's to a fantastic 2014.
Unfortunately we couldn't quite do it yesterday in the Grand Final, and although it was close and the lead changed quite a few times, the Magpies were able to finish strongly and take the 2013 premiership flag.
Last club training tonight and the Grand Final this weekend! With a player breakfast to start the day and the awards night afterward, Sunday is going to be huge. We look forward to seeing all our supporters at Onepoto from 2pm.
Congratulations to our players selected to represent Auckland in the upcoming NPC Tournament: Michael Boyce, Taylor Alaelua, Callum McLean, Matt Kemp, James Roughan, Gray Samuels, James McKenzie and Sam McKenzie. Also well done to James, Dwayne and Boycey for outstanding performances in the B&F vote count.
In a decisive victory over Uni last weekend, the Saints finished top of the AAFL ladder. As 2013's Minor Premiers we go straight through to the Grand Final on Sunday 1st Dec. This Sunday we don't have an official game, but will be training at May Road from 12pm having a practice match and keeping the pressure on, ready for the biggest game of the year!
The Saints haven't played the Magpies since Round 1 which is a real shame, as the crowd were treated to a hard-fought battle on Sunday. The Saints lead by mere points for three quarters but were smashed wide open in the fourth to end up losing by 22 points. The coaches have identified the areas we'll be working on, and for the few remaining trainings left this year attendance will be mandatory - see you there!
A good solid second half really put the Tigers away yesterday. Best players were Brunty, Luke and James R with a lot of others really stepping up. Some of the lads helped the Barbarians out in the second game and 107-year-old Brian Twitchett even got a goal!
It's been a couple of fairly straight forward wins for the Saints in the last couple of weeks. With a bye this weekend for Labour Day long weekend, the boys from Roskill have some tough games coming up leading into finals.
After a week off watching the pros in the AFL Grand Final, the Saints came out with all guns blazing against North Shore on the weekend. In the final quarter Coach Callum made some controversial position changes and the forwards soon realised what an awesome job the backs do week after week. The tigers were goal-less until the final term, and our stalwart backs, Jesse and Booker, both snagged a goal or two.
A great second half on Sunday locked Uni out of the game, the boys really worked well together and put together a decisive victory.
Training is on tonight - 6pm at May Road - bring on a bit of wind and rain for the last non-daylight savings session - see you down there.
Early game this week! Sunday 10:45 at Colin Maiden Park against Uni's B team.
Saints vs Uni at home this Sunday - players be there at 12:45.
This weekend the Saints head down to Mountfort Park to take on the Raiders. After last weekend's loss we'll be looking to bounce back and send a message to the rest of the league. See the "What's Next" section below for upcoming games, locations and times.
Good training last night - remember we train rain or shine - it was some good wet weather footy experience. See everyone back at May Road at 10:30 on Sunday for another intra-club game. The Waikato game was cancelled as they weren't ready for us, we'll try again next year.
Pre-season training starts next Wednesday 7 Aug at 6pm at May Road. The calendar below has been updated with the training dates, and will have game details shortly.
Hopefully a pre-season footy trip down to the Waikato is on the cards. Dates to be confirmed once the AAFL finalises the draw at their meeting next Monday.
The Saints are gearing up for a big 2013. The committee is meeting next Wed 3rd July, everyone who wants to help this year is welcome. Pre-season training due to commence in early August.
We did it!! Saints defeat Magpies in 2012 AAFL Grand Final. A perfect 11-0 season, and the first flag in seven years!
Welcome to the Mount Roskill Saints Australian Rules Football Club. We are based in central Auckland and compete in the AAFL (Auckland Australian Football League).
We are always looking for new players of all levels of experience. We provide full coaching and a fun environment to keep fit, and play an exciting fast paced team sport.
If this sounds like you, then contact us or even just show up at our next training session.
Co Sell is sponsoring the Saint's first pre-Grand Final breakfast for all players. 10am at the Coffee Club on Great South Road.
After the game on Sunday we'll be having our club awards night and trophy presentation at PizzaPizza, 332 Queen St from 7pm. This is the first time the 2013 Saints Social Committee will really be flexing it's muscles, so expect big things!
